A 23-year-old Austin man was cited for burning garbage on Thursday in his backyard.

According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, a witness called at 6:59 a.m. on Thursday to report seeing flames at a residence in the 1000 block of 12th Avenue Northwest. Austin police and fire departments arrived on the scene to find a large bonfire of burning garbage in the backyard.

Firefighters extinguished the fire. The resident received an open burn of garbage citation from police.
