C. Ed Hanson, 90

C. Ed Hanson, 90, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Adams Health Care Center in Adams, Minnesota.

He was born on March 17, 1928, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Austin and Evelyn (Shave) Hanson, one of six children. He spent most of his adult life in Austin, working as a surveyor for the city of Austin before retiring in 1983. In August of 1957 he married Patsy Hatch at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin; they had two children. After years of marriage, Ed and Pat divorced. They spent a brief period apart, after which they reconciled and spent their last years together devoted to one another. When Pat passed away, Ed missed her very much. He loved to travel in the motorhome and wintered in Arizona. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, working on vehicles and fixing things. Ed was a past member of St. Olaf and belonged to the Elks, Eagles and Winnebago Motorhome Club. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Survivors include his son, Timothy (Filomena) Hanson of Austin; daughter, Julie Johnson of Tucson, Arizona; brother, Barney (Margaret) Hanson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; sisters, Sally (Gene) Gerhart of Brownsdale, Minnesota, and Helen Ruth Bartlett of Minneapolis, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Evelyn Hanson; wife, Patsy Hanson; sister, Pat; and brother, Stan.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin with Todd Portinga, Associate in Ministry, officiating. The Hanson family will greet friends from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army.
