Best Bets: Austin getting a visit from Branson

Branson will come to Austin this weekend via the country variety show Ozark Jubilee’s performance, “Stars of the Grand Ole Opry.”

The performance will feature music by Tammy Wynette, Merle Haggard, Porter Wagoner, Patsy Cline, Roy Acuff, Ray Price, George Jones, Charlie Pride and more.

Vocalists Jennifer Simmons and Doug Driesel will be featured performers, as will “Branson’s funniest comedian” and world-class fiddler, Doofus Doolittle.

The show will be from 2-3:30 p.m. on Friday at the Historic Paramount Theatre. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the show. Group purchase prices of 10 tickets or more are $22; group travel must be arranged by Thursday.

Buy great books to support the library

The Friends of the Library and American Association of University Women will hold the annual Spring Book Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the Austin Public Library.

Gently-used books, DVDs and CDs will be available for purchase. The money raised from the sale will help support the Austin Public Library.

Help clean the Mower County Historical Society

The sun is out and the Mower County Historical Society is looking for volunteers to help clean the grounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, to prepare for the upcoming season.

The MCHS encourages those interested to bring a rake, to dress in old clothes and prepare to get dirty.

• ArtRocks Open Jam Session, 7:30 p.m. at the Austin ArtWorks Center. The house band sets up and hosts the event. Players bring their guitars, basses, horns, sticks, keyboards, washboards, etc., and singers and songwriters bring themselves, their words, and their voices. The house band will ‘back’ individual jammers, and allow for groups of jammers to get up and play. ArtRocks events are open to friends and family members of jammers, as well as the public.
