The Hayfield baseball team opened its season with a split in a pair of five-inning games with Triton (2-1 overall, 2-1 HVL) as the Vikings lost the opener 6-1 and won the nightcap 6-4 in Hayfield Thursday.

Eighth grader Easton Fritcher picked up his first varsity win in the nightcap and he also had the game-winning hit as he doubled in two runs with two outs in the top of the fifth. Hayfield had trailed the nightcap 4-1.

“We’re obviously going to go through growing pains, but the boys were resilient in that second game and that was good to see,” Hayfield head coach Kasey Krekling said.
