Street projects highlight council agenda

The Austin City Council will hold public hearings on street improvement assessments during its regular meeting on Monday evening.

Included in the hearings are assessments for :

19th Street Northeast (Oakland Avenue East to Eighth Avenue Northeast), Fifth Street Northwest (Eighth Avenue to 12th Avenue Northwest), 12th Avenue Northwest (Fifth Street to 10th Street Northwest), 14th Avenue Southwest (Fourth Street to Eighth Street Southwest), 15th Avenue Southwest (Fourth Street to Sixth Street Southwest), Fifth Street Southeast (13th Avenue Southeast to dead end), Seventh Street Southeast (13th Avenue to 16th Avenue Southeast), Eighth Drive Southeast (15th Avenue to 16th Avenue Southeast) and 15th Avenue Southeast (Sixth Street to Eighth Drive Southeast).

There will be presentations of the project and associated assessments followed by a call for written objections during the hearings. The council will adjourn to continue the hearings on those properties for which written objections to the assessments have been filed.

City Engineer Steven Lang will review a sump pump ordinance during the council’s work session following the meeting. He will also discuss a Minnesota Department of Transportation project for Highway 105, 12th Street Southwest from Turtle Creek to the city limits. The project will include a mill and overlay, pedestrian curb ramps and sidewalk replacement to comply with requirements set in the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The council will also recognize State Fire Poster winner Rachel Kuhnke.

The City Council will hold its next meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 19, in the Council Chambers in the basement of City Hall. The work session will be held in the conference room across the hall immediately following the meeting.
