Part two of seminar offered at senior center

Published 12:05 pm Saturday, March 17, 2018

The Mower County Senior Center will host attorney Jennifer Gumbel for another seminar. She is calling it “Organizing Your (After) Life, part 2: Legal Costs, Taxes and Nursing Home Care,” and it will be presented at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20.

How much can the cost of probate reduce my estate? What will the government take in taxes? Won’t the nursing home just take everything? Join Jennifer Gumbel to find out answers to these common questions. Learn ways to minimize costs that can arise upon death, so that your loved ones might avoid unnecessary expenses.

She is an attorney with Hoversten, Johnson, Beckmann & Hovey, LLP in Austin, serving clients in the areas of estate planning and probate. She takes a special interest in guiding clients in addressing issues arising when their loved ones pass away and helping them prevent issues from arising in their own estate, especially for farming families locally and international families globally. If you are interested in signing up for this seminar, please stop by our front desk or call 433-2370.

Book discussion

Our local author is back for a book review of Judi Bergan’s novel, “Longing to Belong” at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, to discuss the story. What do you think of the story? Have you ever been in this situation where you longed to belong? Were the characters in Judi’s novel believable? What questions do you have about the ending? Was there resolution?

You may not be old now, but if you’re lucky, one day you will be. We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the Senior Center. Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and a sandwich for 50 cents. On Tuesday, March 20, we are having tater tot hot dish in the coffee shop for only $2. You are always welcome at the center. See you here!
