Marita Ann Michels, 97, of Rose Creek, Minnesota, died Feb. 5, 2018, at the Adams Health Care Center.

Marita was born March 28, 1920, in Adams Township, Mower County, Minnesota, to John and Katherine (Gerber) Smith. She attended St. John’s Catholic School in Johnsburg, Minnesota. On Nov. 28, 1944, she married Wilmer “Bud” Michels at St. John’s Church.

Marita spent her life as a devoted housewife, helping Bud on their farm south of Rose Creek. They moved into town in 1979 and retired from farming a few years later. Marita enjoyed doing needlework, flower and vegetable gardening, bowling, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends. Marita’s faith was very important to her and she always made time in her busy day for prayer.

Marita is survived by her daughter, Linda Felten, Rose Creek; grandchildren, Scott (Erin) Felten, Austin, Minnesota, Julie (Dalen) Maxson, Mantorville, Minnesota, Andrew Felten, Rose Creek, and Brian (Melissa) Felten, Rose Creek; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Matthew Felten, Liberty, Ashlyn, and Brooklyn Maxson, and Edward and Joseph Felten; sisters-in-law, Marcella Smith, Adams, Minnesota, Ethel Bissen, Stewartville, Minnesota, and Ruth Olson, Waterloo, Iowa; and brother-in-law, Joseph (Pete) Michels, Osage, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilmer, in 2006; son-in-law, Arnold Felten; brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Magdalen Smith, Paul and Isabelle Smith, Roy and Helen Smith, and Vernon “Pat” Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Alvina and Walt Theobald; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Bissen, Ken and Patricia Murdock, John Michels, and Clem and Hazel Heimer.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Rose Creek.
