Florence Mary Rhita Brewer Prescott-Goergen, 94, passed from this earth to her heavenly home on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at Samaritan Bethany Home, Rochester, Minnesota, with her family surrounding her.
Florence was born Aug. 24, 1923, to Isaac and Emma (Meurer) Brewer in Adams, Minnesota. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated salutatorian from Adams High School in 1940. She worked with her father until her marriage to George H. Prescott on Aug. 19, 1947. Together they had seven children: George Jr. (April 6-7, 1948), Allen, Mary, Gale, Louise, Helen and Joyce. George died Oct. 22, 1983, and son, Allen, died in 2002.
After reconnecting with her high school sweetheart, Lawrence Goergen, they married on Feb. 14, 1990. Florence was a wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and postal worker. She loved to bake, cook, sew, travel, shop, playing dominoes and solitaire. But, she especially loved spending time with family and friends.
Florence is survived by her husband, Lawrence, Osage, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Francine Prescott, Boynton Beach, Florida; daughter and husband, Mary and Ross Knippel, Half Moon Bay, California; son and wife, Gale and Deb Prescott, Adams; daughter, Louise Prescott, Byron, Minnesota; daughters and husbands, Helen and Mark Wels, North Mankato, Minnesota, and Joyce and Brian Inberg, Cedar Park, Texas; sister, Elizabeth Overland, Eagan, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; her second husband’s children and families; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; infant son, George Jr.; son, Allen; her parents; sisters, Genevieve Brewer, Veronica Asper and Catherine Quale; and infant brothers.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams with Father Swaminatha Pothireddy officiating. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. on Friday at the Adams Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Adams Funeral Home. The family prefers memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic School in Adams.
