Burton L. Svedine, 80

Burton L. Svedine, 80, of Baxter, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at his home.

Burt was born Oct. 18, 1937, in Colton, South Dakota. He graduated from Wadena High School and later attended college for four years in Austin, Minnesota. He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years and was stationed in many places, including Iceland, Italy, Spain, Vietnam and Alaska. He was married to Geraldine Cline in 1957, and the couple was blessed with four children, Terry, Carmon (Million), Clyde and Loren. After his military career, he worked as a security guard at Hormel in Austin. He also worked part-time as a bartender and as a gardener. In 1977, he was married to Lois Anderson and received her children, Pamela (Rhodes), Kathy (Reller), Anne (Kermes) and Jackie (Friesmuth) into his family. He moved to Baxter in 2013 and remained active by volunteering at Triad, the Senior Center, the police department, RSVP and the Salvation Army.  Burt loved to fish, play cards, chess and Bingo, his pool league and going out for breakfast. He was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church.

Burt is survived by Alice (Tutak) Smith; Ardys (Thornburg) Dowd; Joel Thornburg; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Chancy Tutak.

His celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Brainerd, Minnesota, with Deacon Mike Koechler officiating. Friends may visit during the hour before the service. Interment with military honors will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery near Little Falls Minnesota. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
