The Austin girls basketball team lost to Owatonna 58-52 in Ove Berven Gym Friday.
The Packers (12-13 overall, 11-10 Big Nine) held the lead for much of the first half and they were as close as 55-50 after Kiwi VanZant scored with 32.5 seconds left.
The Huskies (20-6 overall, 19-3 Big Nine) led by as many 11 in the second half before Austin surged back.
“We played well enough to win, but we left a few free throws out there and those add up,” Austin head coach Eric Zoske said. “That’s a tough team to play catch-up against. They have their all-time leading scorer [Syd Schultz] and they have 11 seniors. That’s a very athletic team and one of the best teams in our conference.”
Abby Lewis had 13 points and nine rebounds and Emily Hegna had 12 points and nine rebounds for Austin.
