Emily Hegna is a senior basketball player for Austin.
Q: What sports do you compete in?
A: Soccer and basketball.
Q: How did you originally get into basketball?
A: My brother played it growing up so I would go outside and shoot with him and my dad.
Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?
A: Meeting all of my best friends at captains’ practices when I first moved to Austin.
Q: What have you learned from sports?
A: To not be selfish and give it your all for the team.
Q: What is the hardest part about basketball?
A: The length of the season; the winter sport’s season can be long but our team is so close we help pick each other up.
Q: Who is your biggest sports role model and why?
A: [Former Kansas and Current Sacramento Kings player] Frank Mason because he was never the biggest on the court but he overcame it by outworking his competition both on and off the court.
Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?
A: The Martian.
Q: What is your favorite subject in school?
A: Government.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: To work for NASA (but I plan to study business in college).
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Breakfast food.
Q: What are your plans after high school?
A: To attend either the University of Wisconsin-Madison, or the University of Minnesota.
Q: What’s a fun fact about you or hobby you enjoy most people don’t know about?
A: One of my favorite things to do is ski in Vail.
