Dorothy J. Allore, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

Dorothy Jean Olson was born Nov. 28, 1931, in Brookings, South Dakota, to Olaf and Freda (Chambers) Olson. Raised in Brookings, she attended South Dakota State University after graduating from Brookings High School. Dorothy received her teaching degree and taught home economics in South Dakota for two years, and then worked for South Dakota State University in the nutrition research lab. In 1952, she married George Hillberg. The couple raised five children and were later divorced. Dorothy married Wayne Allore on March 20, 1985, in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

After moving to Iowa, Dorothy taught high school home economics. Upon moving to Minnesota, she devoted herself to raising her children. Dorothy later returned to school to pursue a degree in nursing. She worked as an R.N. at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, for 19 years.

An avid reader, Dorothy also liked to spend her spare time gardening, cooking, and baking. She especially enjoyed cooking holiday meals. She was very involved with the Girl Scouts, serving as a leader for many years and later as a member of the board. As members of First United Methodist Church in Austin, both Dorothy and Wayne were instrumental in planning the church kitchen. She cooked the Wednesday night meals at First United Methodist as well as meals at the Salvation Army. Dorothy will be deeply missed by her friends and family.

Survivors include her four children, Sherri Erickson, George (Kimberley) Hillberg, and Lon Hillberg, all of Austin; and Sara Hillberg of St. Paul; stepchildren, Eric (Kim) Allore and Lance (Linda) Allore, both of North Mankato, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Mark (Megan) Erickson, Stephanie Erickson, and Dominic Hillberg; two great-grandchildren, Lillian Lange Erickson and Noah Erickson; and former son-in-law, Larry Erickson of Austin. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne, in 2011; her first husband, George, in 2010; and her son, Mark Hillberg, in 2010.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Austin with Pastor Dennis Tamke officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.
