Betty Jane Christianson, 73, died peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 28, 2018, at her home of over 50 years in rural Austin, Minnesota.
Betty was born on Nov. 25, 1944, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Mary Helen (Wittenmyer) and Elmer Wilkins.
She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. While she was attending, a mutual friend introduced her to her true love, Jerome Christianson, who lovingly nicknamed her “Beege” because she liked the Bee Gees. Betty and Jerry were married Feb. 12, 1966. She wanted to be an airline stewardess, but had her dreams cut short by not meeting the height requirements. She moved to Minnesota and worked at Albert Lea Schools and Weyerhaeuser before she had her children and managed their farm business.
Betty will be remembered for her thoughtfulness, generosity, kindness and devotion to Christ. She loved boating and being on the lake, puzzles and animals.
Betty had an incredibly strong faith and relationship with Jesus. She poured her heart into praying and lifting up her friends and family in His name.
Betty is survived by her beloved husband, Jerry; her wonderful sons, Dale and John (Lilly); and her favorite grandson, Bernie. She is also survived by many friends and relatives who will miss her as she goes on her final journey to Heaven.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Helen and Elmer; daughter, Wendy; and son, Dean.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, at Bethlehem Free Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Steele officiating. Interment will be at Red Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and for one hour before the service on Friday at the church.
