The No. 8 ranked Austin boys basketball team picked up a big win when it knocked off Lakeville North (7-2 overall), which is ranked No. 9 in Class AAAA, by a score of 71-65 in the Lakeville North Tournament Friday.
Austin (8-0 overall) connected on 10 three-pointers in the first half to take a 43-33 lead to the break, but the Panthers made a strong push in the second half. Logan Braaten hit a key fade-away to put Austin up 52-47 and Tate Hebrink drilled a deep contested three-pointer form the wing to the Packers up 64-57.
“It was a heck of an atmosphere, it was a really entertaining game for the fans to watch and it was a good win for us,” Austin head coach Kris Fadness said. “I’m proud of the guys, there were moments where they could’ve lost themselves, but they stuck with it. In the first half we came out and shot the ball at a really high rate. We just came out and shot the ball extremely well from the perimeter. In the second half we were fighting for our lives. We held on.”
Moses Issa led Austin with 19 points.
