Austin goalie Alex Schilling was recently named the Vaughn NAHL Goaltender of the month.

Schilling, a 19-year-old from Medina, Minnesota, was outstanding in the month of November as he put up a 4-0-1 record with a 1.18 goals against average and a 95.8% save percentage. Overall during the month, Schilling stopped 136 of 142 shots that came his way, allowing just six goals. That included his first shutout of the season, which was a 1-0 win at Coulee Region on Nov. 25.

For the season, Schilling has a 7-4-2 record with a 1.99 GAA and a 92.7 save percentage.

“Alex has been solid for us and was a key part in our success as of late. He stays very composed in the net and has made some big saves for us. His leadership on and off the ice has been infectious throughout our team and we are really going to rely on him continuing to get the job done, going forward,” said Bruins head coach Steve Howard.

Schilling is hoping he can continue to have success in net for Austin.

“I think it all started with the sweep of our series in Bismarck the first weekend in November. We had a strong weekend and contributions came from everywhere. We are doing the right things and the little things it takes to win. Every weekend it seems like someone new is contributing, so to have that kind of support and depth really helps,” said Schilling. “Every point matters in the Central Division, so my focus is to keep my team in games and get better every day. I think we have a group of guys that can make a deep run in the Robertson Cup playoffs and hopefully that also translates into an NCAA Division I opportunity.”
