Judge Jeffrey Kritzer issued the sentencing.

Watkins was arrested in November 2016 after police received a call from a woman saying Watkins had “strangled” her.

The woman told police the two had argued about Watkins taking away a cell phone from the victim’s daughter. She said Watkins choked her for five seconds and later pushed her against a wall, causing her to fall to the floor. Police photographed injuries on the woman’s body.

A review of Watkins’ criminal record shows prior convictions for domestic assault, terroristic threats, and violating a domestic assault no contact order.
