Two charged after drug arrests

Two men arrested during the serving of a search warrant appeared on Thursday in Mower County District Court.
Samuel Michael Tanner, 35, of Austin was charged with felony first-degree drug possession of 50 grams of methamphetamine.
Dakota Ray Janning, 20, of Austin was charged with felony third-degree drug possession of methamphetamine in a park zone and felony fifth-degree drug possession.
According to the court complaint, police executed a search warrant at 10:55 a.m. on Tuesday at Tanner’s residence in the 900 block of Fourth Avenue Southwest. Prior to the search, officers found Tanner and issued him a copy of the warrant. He allegedly told officers he had approximately two ounces of methamphetamine in his bedroom and had used methamphetamine on Monday.
Officers searched Tanner’s residence and found three men, including Janning, and one woman inside. Police allegedly found syringes, .44 grams of methamphetamine and a small amount of marijuana in Janning’s possession.
A review of Tanner’s criminal record shows prior drug felony convictions. Janning is awaiting trial on a felony drug offense in Crow Wing County.
In Minnesota, felony first-degree drug possession of 50 grams of methamphetamine carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine. Felony third-degree drug possession of methamphetamine in a park zone carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000, while felony fifth-degree drug possession carries a penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Tanner and Janning will appear in court again on Nov. 30.
