You will find a lot of warmth at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin. And it’s not just the friendly people. It’s the coats.
Volunteers filled church’s coat racks Wednesday morning with the donations that had been stacking up in a small backroom kitchen since early October.

Coats will be handed out today and Saturday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3-5 p.m.
Coats are available only for individuals who do not own a winter coat.
This is the second year of this service project for the congregation. The community has responded.
“We have a pretty good pile,” said lead volunteer Joann Rasmussen.
An effort like this can benefit refugee families who have come to Austin and are faced with the daunting tasks of finding jobs and settling into new homes in an unfamiliar climate. They are starting all over and might never have needed a winter coat, she said.
