Judy K. Brown, 77 of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota (formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa), died Monday, Nov. 6, 2017, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie.
Judy Kay Sawyer was born on June 13, 1940, in Estherville, Iowa, to JD and Jeanne “Jean” (Harrison) Sawyer. Judy graduated from Claremont High School in 1959. On May 1, 1962, she married Rex Brown at Claremont Presbyterian Church in Claremont, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with two sons. Judy worked in communications for most of her life and retired from Mediacom in 2005. Judy and her husband lived in Cedar Rapids for close to 50 years before moving to Blooming Prairie in 2008 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. She loved to read, travel, watch college basketball and TV, especially “Wheel of Fortune.” Judy will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her two sons, Shawn (Heidi) Brown of Blooming Prairie, and Jared (Debbie) Brown of Blooming Prairie; 15 grandchildren, Brandon, Chessa, Kayla, Cameron, Skyler, Ashley, Jaydon, Bailey, Mason, Lauren, Veronica, Makenna, Sarah, Peyton, and Lydia; her brother, James (Linda) Sawyer of Northfield, Minnesota; and her sister, Janine (Dennis) Louks of Blooming Prairie. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rex Brown; her parents; her granddaughter, Gianna Judy Brown; her sister, Jonna Johnson; and her brother-in-law, Richard Johnson.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie with Father Thomas Niehaus officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
