Grain destroyed in fire

Grain in a grain dryer near Elkton was engulfed in flames after a fire started in the dryer Friday morning.

According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, a deputy responded at 5:30 a.m. on Friday to the fire off 680th Avenue, just south of 210th Street. Flames had completely engulfed the grain, which belonged to Douglas Carpenter.

Firefighters from Adams and Dexter extinguished the fire.

It is unknown how the fire started. There is no estimated damage value at this time.
