Geraldine A. Beckel, 80

Geraldine A. Beckel, 80, of Austin, Minnesota, and Chatfield, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.

Geraldine Ann Halloran was born Dec. 14, 1936, in Chatfield, the daughter of Gerald and Loretta (Dempsey) Halloran. She received her degree in education from Clark College in Dubuque, Iowa, and taught at Queen of Angels Catholic School in Austin.

On June 7, 1958, Geri was united in marriage to Dale Allen Beckel at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield. The couple raised six children. Dale passed away in 2009.

Geri was a lifelong member of Queen of Angels Parish. She worked at the Joseph Company and enjoyed all the people she came in contact with. The biggest joy of her life was her grandkids. Geri loved family and family gatherings. Huge Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations were very special times. Other favorite pastimes included playing cards, especially 500 and Bridge. She loved cross-stitch and doing puzzles, and would challenge anyone to games like Scrabble, usually beating them. Geri had the gift of infinite patience. She was always kind, caring and loving. She wished the best for her family and made sure everyone felt equally important. Geri will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children, Kathy (Doug) Hafften of Princeton, Minnesota, Robert (Jean) Beckel of Savage, Minnesota, Gregory (Gretchen) Beckel of Austin, Mark (Peggy Callahan) Beckel of Hinckley, Minnesota, Kevin (Denise) Beckel of Savage, Minnesota, and Kellie (Andrew) Roetter of Winona, Minnesota; grandchildren, David (Annie) Porttiin, Evan (Nikki) Porttiin, Jacob Beckel, Lisa (Drew) Rhoda, Joe Hafften, Shannon Beckel, Emily Beckel, Tori Beckel, Kayla Beckel, Megan Beckel, Erik Beckel, Ashley Roetter; great-grandchildren Lily, Kylie, Logan, and Audrina; her sister, Karen (Terry) Huckstadt of Chatfield; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Geri was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Loretta Halloran; her husband, Dale Beckel; her sister, Helen Wheeler; and her brother and sister-in-law, John and Marty Halloran; grandson, Kyle Beckel; and Baby Roetter.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin with Father Dale Tupper and Father Raul Silva concelebrating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. There will be a Rosary at the Worlein Chapel at 6:30 P.M. on Friday.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Life Enrichment Program at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, or Pacelli Catholic Schools.
