Franklin “Bud” E. Prokopec, 83

Franklin “Bud” E. Prokopec, 83, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie.

Franklin was born to Frank and Alice (Kavansnicka) Prokopec on May 8, 1934, in Blooming Prairie at Goetsch Maternity Home. He was raised and attended school in Blooming Prairie. He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School with a GED certificate while in the service. On April 27, 1953, Bud married Elrose Glock at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Claremont, Minnesota. He worked for the Owatonna Canning Company before beginning a career in construction. Franklin worked for Carlson Construction, Blooming Prairie, Ray Erickson Construction and Wicks Building Center. In October 1981 Franklin and Elrose moved to Cody, Wyoming, where he worked construction with his brother Jim. Bud also worked as a janitor in Cody. After retirement he worked part-time as a Walmart greeter in Cody, before moving back to Blooming Prairie in 2009. He was a member of the VFW and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Claremont. Bud enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycle trips, boating down the Mississippi River, and camping in Wyoming and Minnesota.

Survivors include his wife, Elrose Prokopec of Blooming Prairie; stepbrother, Dean (Connie) Svenby of Fargo, North Dakota; stepsisters, Delores Courtier of Owatonna, and Verona Gay of Florida; nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Alice Prokopec; and two brothers, Don and James Prokopec.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Claremont, with the Rev. Alan Broadwell officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 24 at the church. Interment will be in Cody. Military honors performed by Blooming Prairie VFW Post 878.
