Eleonore “Elli” Rhodes, 91, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Saint Marys Campus.

Eleonore Voss was born March 25, 1926, in Nürnberg, Germany, to Adolf and Margarete (Strobel) Voss. She attended grade school in Nürnberg and then went to professional school to become a mechanical draftsman. Eleonore was a war bride. She met her future husband at the United States Air Force base where she worked as a secretary. Eleonore married Roy Harrison on Aug. 6, 1948, in Nürnberg, and that same year came to the United States. The couple raised two daughters. Roy passed away Dec. 3, 1990. Eleonore worked at Austin Public Schools for seven years as a substitute in German language classes, and 16 years as a teacher’s aide at the Sheriff’s Boys Ranch in Austin.  Eleonore was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Austin. She was a very talented artist, and loved to play organ and piano. Eleonore also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Eleonore is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Dr. Dennis) Woggon of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Michele (Dr. Stephen) Saunders of Lynnwood, Washington; her grandson, Joshua (Ileen) Woggon of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; and great-grandsons Elijah, Tristan and Gabriel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolf and Margarete Voss; her husband, Roy Harrison; and brother, Werner Voss.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with Pastor Ted Barthels officiating. Memorials in Eleonore’s memory may be directed to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Austin.
