Eleanor Thelma Hanson was born June 8, 1925, near Mona in Mitchell County, Iowa. She attended school in Rose Creek, Minnesota, graduating in 1944. After completing her education, Eleanor worked at the Geo A. Hormel Company in Austin for five years in the invoice department. She was united in marriage to Harold Victor Augustin on July 25, 1948, at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church near Lyle, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Austin, where they raised six children. She was an active member of St. John’ Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She enjoyed boating, fishing, bowling, gardening and playing card games, especially “500.” The couple loved to travel, visiting all of the lower 48. The couple also enjoyed dancing, especially square dancing.

Harold died on Nov. 17, 2006. Eleanor continued to live in Austin, moving to The Cedars several years ago. She was active in many events, enjoyed the musical programs, the Red Hat Society, and loved socializing with her friends at the Cedars. When Eleanor greeted people she always had a sweet smile and kind words.
