Eleanor T. Augustin, 92, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at Fieldcrest Nursing Home in Hayfield, Minnesota.
Eleanor Thelma Hanson was born June 8, 1925, near Mona in Mitchell County, Iowa. She attended school in Rose Creek, Minnesota, graduating in 1944. After completing her education, Eleanor worked at the Geo A. Hormel Company in Austin for five years in the invoice department. She was united in marriage to Harold Victor Augustin on July 25, 1948, at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church near Lyle, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Austin, where they raised six children. She was an active member of St. John’ Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She enjoyed boating, fishing, bowling, gardening and playing card games, especially “500.” The couple loved to travel, visiting all of the lower 48. The couple also enjoyed dancing, especially square dancing.
Harold died on Nov. 17, 2006. Eleanor continued to live in Austin, moving to The Cedars several years ago. She was active in many events, enjoyed the musical programs, the Red Hat Society, and loved socializing with her friends at the Cedars. When Eleanor greeted people she always had a sweet smile and kind words.
Survivors include her children, Bruce (Carole) Augustin of Austin, Karen (Mark) Rysavy of Bloomington, Minnesota, Brian Augustin of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Marcia (Kim) Kelly of Rochester, Minnesota, Sharon Kraft of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Brad (Tina) Augustin of Maplewood, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, June Hanson of Rose Creek; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; brother, Kenneth Hanson; and a daughter-in-law, Gail Augustin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor James Groleau officiating. Interment will follow the service at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16th at the Worlein Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials are requested to the American Heart Association or St. John’s Radio Broadcast. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.
