Donovan “Doug” Johnson, 74, of Dexter, Minnesota, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Hospitals, St. Marys Campus in Rochester, Minnesota.
Doug was born Nov. 27, 1942, in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, to Menard and Meta (Stork) Johnson. He graduated from Elkton Public School in 1961 and earned his Associate of Arts degree from Austin Junior College. Doug married Linda Weness on July 11, 1970, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Elkton, Minnesota.
Doug was a manager at the Cooperative Response Center of Austin until his retirement. He also worked 25 years at International Transport of Rochester. He was very active in St. John’s Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday school superintendent for many years and on the church council.
Fishing was his passion, taking many trips to Canada and Lake of the Woods with family and friends, which provided a number of fishy stories. He liked to travel and visited nearly every state and presidential library. He was a quick-witted conversationalist; he always loved being in the midst of friends and gathering with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Meta and Menard Johnson; and brothers, Dale and Delwyn.
Doug is survived by his wife, Linda Johnson, Dexter; brothers Dennis (Joan), New Prague, Minnesota, and DeVern “Hook” (Lina) Rochester; and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Elkton with the Reverend Liz Erickson officiating. Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. and at the church one hour before the service.
