David C. Klingfus Sr., 78, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at his home.

David Charles was born May 9, 1939, in Austin, the son of Ed and Minnie (Brechtel) Klingfus. He attended country schools. David made his living as a maintenance supervisor for 40 years, working for Oak Park Mall from 1975-2015 as its first employee. He was especially interested in vehicle restoration, his favorite being his red pickup truck which he showed from 2003-2015. He traveled throughout the Midwest, receiving 154 trophies and placing first in his division at World of Wheels. David was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin.  He especially loved his role as Dad and Grandpa. David and his wife, Val, were inseparable, and loved to drink classic black Folgers Coffee. He will be remembered for his quick wit and his eagerness to joke around and have fun.

David is survived by his wife of 17 years, Valerie Klingfus of Austin; his children, David Jr. (Kim) Klingfus of Austin, and Dee Culbert (Tom Williams) of Austin; stepsons, Brian Goviera (Rhonda Leon) of Austin and Dustin Hanson (Hope Weise) of Waseca, Minnesota; stepdaughters, Toni (Kenny) Burbank of Imboden, Arkansas, Brandie (Mark) Kilgore of Owatonna, Minnesota, Amber (Casey) Adams, also of Owatonna; grandchildren, Chrissy (Vern) Bauer, Kassey Culbert (Eric Anderson), Cody Williams, Danielle (Aaron) Nickolson, Derek Klingfus, Maggie Klingfus, Ian Klingfus, Madison Adams, Mackeznie Adams, and Michael Adams; several step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and honorary grandchildren; and his brother, Roger (Alice) Klingfus of Waterloo, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy Klingfus; his second wife, Viola “Vi” Klingfus; his stepdaughter, Betty; his brothers, Kenny, Chet, Dwayne, Willie, Jim, Don, and Bob; and his sisters, Marjerie Klingfus, Betty Prigge, and Deloris McAllister.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Karen Behling and Intern Pastor Anders Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17 at Worlein Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
