Betty (Peters) McClelland, 69

Betty (Peters) McClelland, 69, passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy from pancreatic cancer and complications of a stroke.

She was born Feb. 1, 1948, to George and Marie Peters, the fifth of six children in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. She graduated from St. Ansgar High School and married James Hofland in 1966. To that union two children were born, Sheila and Christopher. They later divorced. On Sept. 26, 1981, she married Vaughn McClelland. She was employed over the years at Hupp Electric Motors, Iowa Precision, and Discovery Living, To The Rescue, USPS, and she owned and operated with her husband the Hometown Restaurant in Coggon for nine years. In retirement, she was active and a leader at the Faith Mission Shop in Coggon as well as the Coggon Comforters. She was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Vaughn; daughter, Sheila (Steve) Yates; son, Christopher (Kristin) Hofland; stepson, Kenneth McClelland; stepson, Nathan (April) McClelland; two brothers, Ron (Lois) Peters of Austin, Minnesota, and Robert (Judy) Peters of Harmony, Minnesota; three sisters, Marlene (Quentin) Fiala of Austin, Linda (Jerry) Reinartz of Austin, and Julie (Ken) Wilkens of Hastings, Minnesota; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one uncle, the Rev. Eimo (Pat) Hinrichs of Peoria, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial gathering will take place from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Committal will be in Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle, Minnesota, with the Rev. Mark Niethammer officiating.
