Alumni Update: Wessels and Aase begin senior season at Sioux Falls

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Austin grads Zach Wessels and Tom Aase are beginning their fourth and final season together as teammates at the University of Sioux Falls.
With both players in the starting lineup, Wessels had four points, six rebounds and three assists in an 89-62 win over Waldorf on Nov. 21. Aase had three points and two wins in that win for the Cougars, who are off to a 4-1 overall start to the season.
After a one-year hiatus, Austin grad AJ Nywesh is back on the college basketball scene with the University of Minnesota-Moorhead. Nywesh has played in all four games for the Dragons (2-2 overall) and he’s averaging 1.8 points and 1 rebound per game early on.
Austin grad Bret Lukes has begun his senior season at Hamline University as he chipped in three points in a 79-60 win for the Pipers (2-0 overall) over North Central on Nov. 21.
Austin grad Gach Gach has worked his way into the starting lineup in his first year at West Texas A & M. Gach played 33 minutes and tallied eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals in a 91-80 win over Colorado State University-Pueblo Nov. 18.
Hayfield grad Drew Olive is playing at Saint Mary’s University in Winona this year and he had nine points and two assists in a 109-68 loss to Western Illinois Nov. 11.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Blooming Prairie grad Taylor Hagen had 11 points, four rebounds and four assists for the University of Northern Iowa in a 57-53 win over Iowa State on Nov. 14.
Hagen is averaging 5.7 points and 1.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 53 percent from the field for the Panthers (1-2 overall).
Blooming Prairie grad Madison Worke had eight points on three-of-three shooting for Winona State University in a 72-54 win over McKendree Nov. 18.
The Warriors are off to a 4-0 start to the season.
Former Lyle-Pacelli standout Sarah Holtz has worked her way into the starting lineup in her second year at Luther College.
Holtz had 11 points and six rebounds on four-for-eight shooting in a 73-60 win over UW-Platteville Nov. 21. The Norse are 2-2 overall on the season.
Southland grad Jana Schammel has begun her senior season at John Brown University in Arkansas. Schammel had two points, four rebounds and two steals in a 58-49 loss to MidAmerica Nazarene on Nov. 14.
JBU is 4-2 overall on the season.
Grand Meadow grad Rio Landers has begun her first season at the University of Northwestern after transferring from Dordt College.
Landers is averaging 3.5 points per game, 5.8 rebounds and 1 assist per game in four starts for UNW (1-3 overall).
Austin grad Shayley Vesel is averaging 8.8 points per game on 43 percent shooting from the field in six games for NIACC (6-0 overall).
Austin grad Rebecca Younis has played in four games for Pratt Community College in Kansas this season.
Younis is averaging 3.3 points, and 2 rebounds per game for Pratt (1-6 overall).
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
Blooming Prairie grad Elly Strunk has played in three games this season as a freshman for Gustavus (4-1-1 overall).
Struck has attempted five shots for the Gusties.
