Pacelli fourth and fifth graders attended the Big Island Rendezvous Education Day last week in Albert Lea.
Held in Bancroft Park, the rendezvous is an annual event that celebrates history during the fur trade period and early frontier America, including the Civil War era and pioneer settlement.

The living history event supplements fourth and fifth grade social studies curriculum which highlights the history of the regions of the United States, from the beginning of the original 13 colonies through the Civil War.

The students were provided with several hands-on history lessons. The day offered opportunities in Scottish dancing, fabric dyes, and fabric printing. They also experienced pioneer life with spinning activities, an introduction to different colonial jobs, going through a stagecoach, playing pioneer games, and visiting a Civil War field hospital. The students went through a replica of a woodland Native American village and learned how to set a tipi.
