Eagles blank Austin girls soccer team

The Austin girls soccer team ran into a stingy opponent as it struggled to find its offensive flow in a 4-0 loss to Rochester Lourdes in Art Hass Stadium Monday.

The Eagles (11-1-1 overall) now have eight shutouts on the season as they held the Packers to just one shot on goal, when Austin had a good look near the net in the second half.

Lourdes led 3-0 at the break as Emma Schmitz scored on a breakaway in the fourth minute, McKenna Chestolowski knocked in a corner kick in the 20th minute and Schmitz hit a penalty kick in the 33rd minute.

Austin head coach Jake Levisen thought his team may have got a little caught up in the emotions of playing against Lourdes.

“We’ve just got to stop focusing on names. The only name that really matters is Austin,” Levisen said. “In the first half it seemed like they were still warming up and the second half they realized ‘we’re Austin, let’s play Austin style. Nothing to discredit Lourdes, they’re a strong opponent but I know we could’ve given more and the girls know they could’ve given more.”

Myia Hoium had nine saves in the first half for Austin (5-6-1 overall) before she had to leave the game with an injury. Cassity Nangle had 13 saves in relief.
