The Austin Police Department added three new officers to its roster on Tuesday.

Officers Nathan St. Aubin of Marshall, Rachel Olson of Owatonna, and Michael Nordean of Two Harbors were sworn-in Tuesday morning during a ceremony in the council chambers at City Hall. Austin Director of Administrative Services Tom Dankert administered the oaths.

Family, friends and other police officers were on-hand to witness the swearing-in.

“This is a very big day for our department,” said Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, who gave each of the new officers their respective badges, numbers 121, 122 and 123.

The new officers are filling positions vacated by retirements, bringing the Austin Police Department roster to 33 of 34 positions. Krueger said he hopes to have the last position filled by early November.

Now that they have been sworn in, St. Aubin, Olson and Nordean will spend the next three months assigned to a field-training officer. Krueger said they should be ready to go on their own by February.
