Volleyball league registration is Friday

Adult Fall Volleyball League registration deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8. Leagues play at Ellis Middle School with women’s league on Wednesday evenings and co-ed on Friday evenings.
Entry fee is $169 plus an $8 player fee with a minimum of six players paid for when you register. You may find our information on our city website or on our Facebook page.
Deer hunt
Our deer hunt application is now available. It is currently posted on our Facebook page and will be on our website at www.ci.austin.mn.us. The DNR book states that our deadline is Aug. 18 but we have extended that deadline to Sept. 14.
There will be an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the City Council chambers. Those who have applied are urged to attend as well as those who would like to learn more about the process.
Austin police
The Austin Police Department will be holding another Citizen Academy from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 12, 19, 26, Oct. 3, 10 and 17.
Class applications are available at the Law Enforcement Center or online at the city website: www.ci.austin.mn.us. You must be an Austin resident or business owner age 21 or older to apply.
Learn to skate
The next Learn to Skate registration deadline is Sept. 11. It is open to all ages and will teach the participants the basics of skating. The program will run six weeks on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. beginning Sept.13 through Oct. 18 with a cost of $35. Skates can be rented for $1 depending on size availability.
Bruins
The Austin Bruins will be hosting two pre-season games this year on Friday, Sept. 8, against the Brookings Blizzard and Friday, Sept. 15, against the Minnesota Magicians at 7:05 p.m. both nights. Tickets will be available at the door — $11 for adults and $8 for students.
Season tickets are available for $225 for adults, $190 for students and seniors or buy the 10-pack for $90 and choose any 10 games excluding pink night. If you are a season ticket holder the pre-season games are free.
Runs
If you have not registered for the 5K Your Way on Saturday, Sept. 9 you can still do it up to and on race day.

The 1st Austin Utilities Share the Heat 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 7.
You can register online at www.austinutilities.com by Oct. 1 to receive a T-shirt. Questions can be directed to Austin Utilities at 507-433-8886. The cost is $25 for those 11 and up. Those 10 and under are free to participate and optional T-shirt for $15. Check-in will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Austin Utilities. This is a local run for a local cause.
Proceeds raised support the HeatShare heating assistance program administered by the Salvation Army. When you give to HeatShare, you are helping warm the lives of the elderly, disabled and others in the Austin community who have nowhere else to turn.
