Muriel B. Thomson, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, was called to her eternal home on Tuesday, Sep. 12, 2017, at home with family.

Muriel was born April 25, 1930, to Julius “Benny” and Mary (Thorud) Glenna in Rushford, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at the Rushford Lutheran Church. She graduated from Rushford High School, the Class of 1948. Muriel married Carlton Eugene Thomson on Feb. 4, 1949, in Rushford. They moved to Austin where they raised their children. She was a longtime member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Aid and other committees for many years. Muriel and Luella Gilbertson cleaned houses together for many years and had many fun stories to tell. They were quite the team. Her hobbies included bowling, golfing, camping, card club, Home Extension, sewing, quilting, crocheting, and cooking. She even made a few wedding cakes. She loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband Carlton “Tommy”; three children, James (Patricia) Thomson of Glendale, Wisconsin, John (Sarah) Thomson of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Barbara (Todd) Anderson of Austin; daughter-in-law, Kathy Thomson; grandchildren, Chad (Patricia) Thomson, Dion Thomson, Jaime Thomson, Anthony Thomson, Janelle (Brisco) Sumrall, Laura (Brian) Sheridan, Aaron Thomson, Cecily Thomson, Jenna Anderson, and Matthew Anderson; nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lila Bisbee, Agnes Glenna and Yvonne Thomson; many nieces, nephews, and friends; and special friends, David, Elaine and Ben Watts of Rice, Minnesota. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three children, Patricia in 1957, David in 2003, and Robert in 2009; siblings, Ovedia Ellefson, Richard Glenna, Arnold Glenna, Norma Haslerud, Lila Hearn and Bertram Glenna; brothers-in-law, Maynard Ellefson, Meredith Haslerud, John Hearn, Vincent Bisbee, Allan Thomson and Kenneth Thomson; sister-in-law, Marion Glenna; three nieces; and three nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Paul Welke officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, immediately preceding the service at the church. Interment will be at a later date at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minnesota.
