An interception late in the first half derailed the LeRoy-Ostrander Cardinals (1-0) who couldn’t get back on track in a 50-29 loss to Mabel-Canton Friday night in LeRoy.

Mabel-Canton led 14-7 with the Cardinals threatening inside the 10-yard line when LeRoy quarterback Trey Hungerholt threw the pick.

“We couldn’t really recover,” coach Aaron Hungerholt said.

The Cardinals battled through the first portion of the half answering an initial score by MC and taking a 7-6 lead.

Trey Hungerholt completed 16 passes for 235 yards and rushed for 34 more yards.
