Library’s friends putting on their Fall Used Book Sale

Friends of the Austin Public Library will be holding their Fall Used Book Sale at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Used books, as well as CDs and DVDs, will be available for purchase. There will be a special bag sale from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bags can be purchased for $5 each.

Are you a member of the Friends of the Austin Public Library? If so, you are invited to a special “members only” sale from 6:30-8:30 p.m. this evening. If you’re not a member, memberships can be purchased at the Austin Public Library for $10.

United Way Day of Caring

The United Way is allowing residents of Austin to help take care of Catherwood Home Child Care, the only childcare center in Austin that offers non-traditional hours. Residents can volunteer to help out from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Work will include updating and repairing the building, organizing and landscape work.

•Seeing Voices – An Outdoor Art Projection Work by Jane Wunrow, 7:30-10 p.m. at the Historic Paramount Theatre. During Austin’s Homecoming weekend Jane Wunrow, native of Austin and AHS graduate, will be exhibiting her art through means of visual projection on the exterior of the Paramount Theater. Jane’s art is grounded in pen and ink, moments of collage, and layers of gouache. Her aesthetic and conceptual approach is largely influenced by the fragmentary nature of dreams. Saturday, Sept. 30

•Mower County Senior Day, 8:30 a.m. to noon at various locates around Austin. Seniors needing help with projects around their homes can contact the Senior Center Chore Program. Projects should be able to be completed within 2-4 hours, homeowner or registrant’s contact must be present while project is being completed, supplies must be provided by homeowners, and volunteers will not be able to go on roofs or inside homes, for safety and liability reasons.
