Austin man pleads not guilty to drugs, weapon charges

An Austin man pleaded not guilty to drug and weapons charges Thursday in Mower County District Court.

Jesse Deane Kranz, 32, was arrested after police allegedly found 5.8 grams of methamphetamine and a nine-millimeter firearm in his home. He faces charges of felony fifth-degree drug possession, felony violent felon in possession of a firearm and felony violent felon in possession of firearm ammunition.

Austin police, Mower County Sheriff’s deputies, members of the Austin/Mower Special Incident Response Team and the Southeast Minnesota Violent Crimes Enforcement Team arrested Kranz after executing a search warrant on July 28 at his residence on the 1900 block of First Avenue Northeast, according to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger,

A warrant was issued for Kranz on Aug. 14 after he failed to show up for a hearing.

Kranz’s pre-trial is Dec. 29.
