Austin man pleads guilty to drug possession

A 45-year-old Austin man charged with possessing 28.25 grams of heroin, $4,437 in cash and other drug-related items during a September 2016 drug bust has reached a plea agreement.

Michael James Polk, also known as Erick Devon Reed, pleaded guilty Thursday in Mower County Court to third-degree drug possession of three or more grams of heroin in Mower County District Court.

According to court report, Austin police executed a search warrant at 8:22 a.m. on Sept. 2, 2016, on the 400 block of Second Avenue Southeast at Polk’s home.

Police found 2.96 grams of heroin in the garage, along with drug ledgers, the cash and three cell phones.

They  later found 25.29 grams of heroin hidden in the siding of the house.

Polk admitted to selling heroin he picked up from a “runner,” who usually took a bus from Chicago to the Twin Cities.

Polk is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 1.
