Austin man, 26, pleads guilty to domestic assault

An Austin man charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation pleaded guilty in Mower County District Court on Monday.

Johnston Olpet, 26, was charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation and misdemeanor fifth-degree assault in January. He initially pleaded not guilty, but changed his plea as part of a plea agreement.

The charge of misdemeanor fifth-degree assault was dropped.

According to the court report, Olpet held his victim against a wall and choked her for 20 to 30 seconds and threatened to kill her. He told police they had argued, but it did not turn physical.

Olpet is scheduled for sentencing on Nov. 2.
