Virginia Catherine Daily, 96

Virginia Catherine Daily, 96, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

Virginia was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Ossian, Iowa, to Leo and Marie (Thiltgen) Barthelme. The family moved to Rose Creek, Minnesota, when Virginia was 7 years old. She attended St. Peter’s School through the eighth grade. In 1934 her parents moved to a farm in Adams. Virginia attended Adams High School and graduated in 1938. After completing a course in business at Mankato Commercial College, she was employed by Geo. A. Hormel Co. for two years. On Sept. 18, 1941, Virginia was united in marriage to Denver P. Daily at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin.

Virginia was active in several organizations and served as President for St. Augustine CCW, BPO Does, Philomathian Club, Sacred Heart Care Center, and Golden Kiwanis. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Virginia loved to cook, travel, fish, and enjoy time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Karen Mattison of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, Kay (Mahlon) Krueger of Austin, Jim Daily of Austin; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Genevieve Anastasi of Aptos, California; sisters-in-law, Beverly Christopherson of Cohasset, Minnesota, Lois Barthelme of Stewartville, Minnesota; and her nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Denver; parents; sister, Roberta; and brother, Robert.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There will be a 5 p.m. CCW rosary on Monday at Mayer Funeral Home, where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. and there will also be visitation one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial are preferred to the donor’s choice.
