Swimming pool to be open on the Fourth

Published 9:01 am Saturday, July 1, 2017

The Austin Municipal Pool will be open on the Fourth of July at 1 p.m. There will not be a lap swim. We will follow our closing procedures which are:

If there are fewer than 25 patrons after the first hour and 45 minutes of opening, the pool will close.

When already open if there is lightning in the area, the pool will be vacated.  Pool staff will wait 20 minutes after the last bolt of lightning to reopen.

If we are experiencing inclement weather, the pool will not open.

The pool will not open if the air temperature is less than 67 degrees.

On Friday, July 14 join us for the free Family Fun Night at the pool from 7 to 9 p.m. A big thank you to our sponsors — VFW, Austin Eagles and APAC — this event would not be possible without them. APAC will be giving away towels to the first 200 students to enter the pool. Our DJ, Dee Randall is back to play some tunes and games will be played again, run by our summer recreation assistant Molly Noterman. Last year there were 286 in attendance and fun was had by all. See you there!

Hours are: 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday; 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings; 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

On July 21, 22 and 23 we will be hosting the Minnesota Regional Championship meet. The pool will be closed for public swimming, however we plan to have the splash pad open during these times free of charge.

Season membership can be purchased at our office, located in City Hall, or at the pool during open hours.  Rates are $30 per person, we do not offer a family pass.

Daily admission is $3 for the afternoon sessions and $2 for the evening sessions, those age 2 and under are free. Everyone entering the pool must purchase a pool membership or pay the daily fee. Register for summer swimming lessons at our office. We offer four, two week sessions beginning June 19. Classes are offered from 10 a.m. to noon and 4:45 to 6:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. You may check availability at our office.

Thank you very much to the person who called the police when they saw kids in the pool this past Tuesday evening after we were closed.

We do have signage regarding the use of the electronic pool vacuum when the pool is closed.  We would also like to thank our police officers that responded to the call as they did catch the kids in the act.
