An Austin man who allegedly bit an Austin police officer during an arrest is facing felony and gross misdemeanor charges.
Pablo Alfonso Nunez, 24, was charged with felony terroristic threats, felony fourth-degree assault on a peace officer and three counts of gross misdemeanor domestic assault in Mower County District Court on Tuesday.
According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, an officer stopped by Gold Cross on 10th Street Northwest when she was approached by a group of distraught people at 6:09 p.m. on Saturday.
They told her that a family member, Nunez, was “going crazy” and was trying to grab a knife.
Officers subdued Nunez at Taser points and cuffed him. Nunez began to bang his head on the concrete. Officers then moved him to the grass, where he bit the responding officer on the leg. The bite was not serious and the officer continued to work her shift.
A family member stated that Nunez had a history of mental illness.
Nunez will appear in court on August 7.
