A tasty fundraiser; Hayfield Fire Department Chicken Fry this weekend

Published 9:03 am Thursday, July 13, 2017

Get out your cooking oil and make it hot, because the Hayfield Fire Department will host its annual Chicken Fry this weekend.

This year marks the third year the Hayfield Fire Department has done this event, but the chicken fry goes back many years.

“It’s an old tradition,” said Hayfield Fire Department Chief Paul O’Brien. “They used to do it for about 40 years, then they stopped for 20 years. The fire department brought it back because the older residents requested it.”

This year, the Hayfield Fire Department will team up with the Hayfield American Legion.

Events will begin on Friday, July 14, with a beer garden and street dance in the evening.

Events will continue in the afternoon on Saturday, July 15, including a parade, the chicken fry, another street dance and fireworks at dusk.

Wristbands for the street dances can be purchased for $5 in advance or $10 at the door. Wristbands are good for both nights.

All proceeds from the chicken fry will go toward the Hayfield Fire Department and the Hayfield American Legion.

Last year, the fire department fed 850 people. O’Brien hopes to get just as many, if not more.

“It’s a town get-together that helps support the Hayfield Fire Department,” he said.
