With one major bridge project complete, another is primed for work.
The $2.97 million project to replace the 11th Drive Northeast bridge over Interstate 90 at exit 179 is kicking into gear in Austin this weekend now the Oakland Place Southeast bridge is open just a short distance away.
Demolition of the 11th Drive Northeast bridge will begin Friday evening, and I-90 traffic will be routed up and down the off- and on-ramps for the weekend.
The work is expected to be done by 5 a.m. Monday. If work is completed sooner, traffic will be reopened earlier.
Vehicles that normally access I-90 from this interchange will need to follow detour signs to access the highway at other interchanges.
Currently motorists are restricted to single-lane traffic in each direction on I-90 at Austin near exit 179.
Since the Oakland Place and 11th Drive bridges are close to a mile apart, Minnesota Department of Transportation and the county coordinated so both bridges wouldn’t be closed at the same time.
