Southland softball team moves past Falcons in a thriller

The No. 6 seeded Southland softball team kept its postseason magic alive when it rallied to beat No. 2 Wabasha-Kellogg (11-10 overall) 16-15 in eight innings in the Section 1A East semifinals in Wabasha Wednesday.
Southland (5-15 overall) took the lead for good when Morgan Brown doubled in a run in the top of the eighth inning. The Rebels scored four runs in the sixth inning to tie game at 15-15. Lexi Shaw singled in two runs to provide the game-tying hit.
The Rebels had led 7-3 early, but the Falcons scored 10 runs in the bottom of the second to go up 13-7.
“We hit the ball well tonight. It was fun to be a part of,” Southland head coach Greg Schulte said. “The girls could’ve easily given up and they did not, they fought back.”
Southland will now take on No. 4 Mabel-Canton in the Section 1A East title game Wabasha 4:30 p.m .Friday.
