Dozens of potted evergreen trees remain available for sale through the Mower Soil and Water Conservation District office in Austin.
Container trees – Black Hills Spruce and Techny Aborvitae (1 gallon and 2 gallon) along with Meyer Spruce (1 gallon) – can be purchased from Mower SWCD. One-gallon trees are $9.90 each and 2-gallon trees are $15.25 each, plus sales tax.
A 10 percent discount will be applied to an order of 20 or more trees.
The container trees are left over from Mower SWCD’s annual tree program in April that sells bareroot and container trees and shrubs mainly for rural windbreaks.
Tree orders can be made at the Mower SWCD office, 1408 21st Ave. NW in Austin. For more information, the SWCD at 507-434-2603.
Mower SWCD also offers free packets of pollinator seed mix, with a limit of five packets per person. The packets from Minnesota Native Landscapes include a mix of 12 perennial plant species that are native to Minnesota. The packet covers 5 square feet. Pollinator mix seeds should be planted in a sunny location with no existing growth either in spring after the last frost or in fall after the growing season. Seeds should be scattered evenly and then compressed lightly into the soil. Then the plot should be watered as needed during the first growing season.
