Madelyn Mullenbach and Mary Willrodt were invited to lunch with the Austin Rotary Club for March and April. They were selected for being senior students who excel in academics, leadership and/or activities.

Maddie Mullenbach

Activities and hobbies: Gymnastics, diving, painting/drawing, spending time outside and spending time with animals and pets.

Awards, recognition: Placed at state gymnastics from 2013 to 2017; took home all-around and beam championship in 2016, and floor championship, (including breaking the state record with a 9.8) in 2017. Placed ninth in state diving, earned the All-State Gymnastics Award; and received the Gymnastics Hall of Fame Honorary Athlete Award.

Thoughts on your educational experience so far: I enjoy the opportunity to take post-secondary options classes as a junior and senior. I get college credits, while still living the high school experience, as well as athletic activities.

Plans for the future: I plan to attend a four-year college to study wildlife management. I will major in forestry and minor in environmental studies. I am hoping to continue competing in gymnastics at the college level.

Thoughts about your experience with the Rotary Club: I feel as if the Rotary Club is a clever way to reward students. The students are finally recognized for their hard work, which I think is great.

Mary Willrodt

Activities/hobbies: I am involved in dance, volleyball, National Honor Society, Youth Leadership, DECA, band, choir and Austinaires.

Awards/recognitions: Academic All-State in volleyball, Big 9 All-Conference honorable mention; and Presidential Academic Award.

Thoughts on your educational experience so far: My educational experience in Austin has been great throughout the years and I can’t wait to see what the future brings when I go to college next year.

Plans for the future: I plan to attend South Dakota State University; I am undecided about my major.

Thoughts about your experience with the Rotary club: I had an amazing experience attending Rotary Club meetings. I enjoyed all of the presentations and I am very grateful that I got this opportunity.
