The No. 4 seeded Hayfield baseball team stepped up its pitching and defense as it ended No. 5 Lyle-Pacelli’s season with a 4-0 win in Hayfield in a Section 1A West quarterfinal in Hayfield Thursday.
The Vikings (9-11 overall) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Brady Dahl came up with a two-out, two run single.
Hayfield turned three double plays in the win, including one in the second inning when LP had the bases loaded with one out and leadoff hitter Zach Bollingberg at the plate.
Junior Zach Nelson pitched four and one-thirds inning of relief for the Vikings to help them preserve their pitching staff.
“Zach came in a pressure situation and that’s the best he’s pitched for us,” Hayfield head coach Kasey Krekling said.
