6-year-old finds gun; Rusty, unloaded weapon turned over to police

A 6-year-old boy found a gun in a row of evergreen trees in Austin on Tuesday.
Austin Police responded to the report of a gun found in the 600 block of Ninth Avenue Southwest at 6:48 p.m.
According to Chief Brian Krueger, the boy found the gun in a row of evergreen trees and turned the weapon over to his mother, who then contacted the police.
Officers retrieved the weapon, a Taurus 9 mm pistol, and placed it into evidence. The weapon was rusty and unloaded.
The investigation into who left it there is ongoing.
