ST. PAUL — A St. Paul man charged with fatally shooting a teenager at a Highland Park house party last summer has been acquitted.

Brandon D’Angelo Alexander, 23, was acquitted Tuesday of two second-degree murder charges, Defense attorney Richard Sarette told the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

“Obviously, he is very happy,” Sarette said of Alexander’s reaction.

Alexander was accused of killing Tyshawn Hill, 19, who was visiting St. Paul from Chicago, at a July 27 party.

In his closing statements, Assistant Ramsey County Attorney Ryan Michael Flynn said Alexander was upset about being thrown out of the party after getting into several altercations during the event and came back to “teach someone a lesson.”

Alexander’s defense alleged he returned to the party with a BB gun and an air gun, but he didn’t fire the real gun recovered on the scene. Sarette argued the gunshot wound Alexander sustained to his hand during the altercation is evidence of his innocence.
