Jorge Marcos

At Austin High School I was involved in soccer. I had a great time playing with the team. Being in sports helped me in school, and it helped me to stay out of trouble. Also, I volunteered to help at church. I helped them clean inside and outside the church; it was a great experience helping the church.

My college plans are to go to a two-year community college and study mechanical engineering; after that, transfer to a four-year community college, and keep going with the same career.

This summer I will be attending Riverland Community College to do “Be Your Best.” “Be Your Best” is a summer academy. It is a free program for teens and young adults between the ages of 16 and 22. At “Be Your Best,” students have the opportunity to prepare for college by taking pre-college math, reading and writing.

One person who has had a positive impact on my academic life in school is my guidance counselor, Mr. Ott. He has been my counselor since 10th grade. He has helped and encouraged me when I had a difficult class. He has also helped me make important decisions regarding what classes I should take. Mr. Ott has always been there to help me when I need it.
